LED is a kind of energy saving and environmental protection, long life and multi-purpose light source. The professional advisory body predicts that the global high-brightness LED market will grow from $ 4 billion in 2006 to $ 9 billion in 2011, with an average annual compound growth rate of 16.7%. China has become the world's major low-end LED packaging production base. 2006 China's LED output value of 14 billion yuan, is expected in 2008 the size of the application market will reach 54 billion yuan, by 2010 the size of the domestic LED industry more than 100 billion yuan.

From 2007 to 2003, the popularity of mobile phone backlight to promote the rapid development of the global LED industry; from 2007 onwards, the notebook computer screen using LED gradually popularization, is the global LED industry, a new driving force for development; future high-brightness lighting LED market is very broad.

The LED production process includes single crystal growth and epitaxial growth, chip fabrication and packaging. Upstream single crystal and epitaxial growth are demanding on technology and capital. LED industry is the core issue of material technology breakthrough, its development history is a material development history.

From the "Eleventh Five-Year" plan, China's government will be the semiconductor lighting project as a major project to promote. Most of the domestic enterprises engaged in LED downstream packaging and application, the required chip, key equipment and technology are mostly imported from abroad.
